Will the Candidates Address Gay Marriage? 6/08
The question isn't really will, it's when....:) We all watchedthe Dems on LOGO last summer debate gay marriage.......
Disappointed by their anti-gay marriage position we still
worked our hearts & sweat for them & voted for the Dems in
our primaries. Now with gay marriage becoming the law in
California this issue is about to heat up big time...
Obama has always said he doesn't support gay marriage butsupports civil unions with all the benefits of marriage. In the
past months we have learned that civil unions globally have
created a new group of second class citizens providing only 1/3
the benefits of marriage. In recent months gay marriage &
LGBT rights have been avoided by the candidates in the media.
Obama has mentioned it a few times in primary acceptance
speeches.....And Hillary finally made a reference to the gay
community's quest for civil rights in her bye bye address....
As Hillary gets ready to campaign for Obama it should beinteresting to see if the Dems address our issues or just
continue to only fully support our community behind closed

If I had to guess, unless it's brought up at "Town Meetings" it's not going to be a priority in the campaign. In fact I'll be willing to bet the subject will be almost invisible as folks are more concerned about the cost of fuel, food, Iraq and the Middle-Eastern Theater, healthcare, and the economy as a whole. The last thing regular folk are going to care about is gay anything.
Next week when gay marriages becomes the law in California it's going to be a media feeding frenzy like it was here 4 years ago in Massachusetts. It'll come up in the Candidates dialog. We'll just have to see if it has a lasting effect on LGBT issues...:)

might have the chutzpah
to actually fight for EQUAL rights
but then
i was rooting for hillary not obama
here's hoping he does the right thing
