President Obama awarded the Medal of Freedom posthumously to
gay activist Harvey Milk. This is the highest civilian award in the
U.S. It recognizes those individuals who have made "an especially
meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of
the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public
or private endeavors." Governor Schwarzenegger proclaim May 22
as Harvey Milk Day in the state, to coincide with Milk's birthday.

encourages public schools in the state to conduct lessons
"remembering the life of Harvey Milk, recognizing his
accomplishments & familiarizing pupils with the contributions he
made to this state." Now let’s get rid of that nasty Prop 8…:)
